As part of my continued journey with “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron, one of the primary lessons has been around listening to those creative inner nudges… and having the courage to follow them through.
This is how I found myself sitting in a coffee shop last week, eyes wide, palms a little sweaty feeling like an overweight cat trying to get through a cat flap… stuck.
Caught in that limbo between pushing through knowing it might hurt a little, or pulling back and running the hell away.
I’m pleased to report that my courage prevailed and I faced one of my biggest fears:
Filming a video in a public place 😳
Life is keeping my calendar full at the moment, so I’ve been slowly piecing it together and editing the footage in my evenings. And this morning I’m hitting the “Publish” button once again to share my raw creativity with the world.

I am so self-conscious about the hair on my chin & how it shows up more in the sunlight. It’s all I can see when I watch the shots of me driving.
Having to blur out the license plate on my car and also the person’s face in public was a pain in the ass. Will definitely be mindful of this next time…or at least apply the blur before I start chopping up the shot so I only have to do it once instead of 746 times.
Buying a lapel mic is a must - the sound recording of my talking in the car was terrible and I had to do a lot of post-processing to make it clear which has made my voice sound super weird at points.
Even though my iPhone is doing a good enough job at capturing footage, I still continue to dream about having a “proper” camera and seeing how that would impact the process. Although filming on my phone in public likely drew a lot less attention than a film camera would.
In the Fairtrade shop, I told the guy I was a filmmaker just for the heck of it! He didn’t even react or question it, which obvs gave me a huge buzz.
